Kapolei, HI
Schnackel Engineers was selected as the MEP Consultant to the design-build team that worked on Ho‘okele Elementary School, a new $40 million elementary school in Kapolei focused on 21st Century Learning. The design-build team included KYA Design Group and NAC Architecture.
The approximately 123,173 square-foot school opened its doors in August 2015 and serves students from kindergarten to fifth grade. Ho‘okele Elementary School was fully designed in REVIT, and was built according to U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Schools 2009 standards. The seven-building campus has onsite bio-retention, native xeriscape landscaping, multiple drop-off entries for parents and buses, and expansion areas to accommodate increasing enrollment. Other features are a courtyard and library, cafeteria, air-conditioned classrooms, learning gardens, playfields, and a wireless network.
The project was designed using Schnackel’s revolutionary AI for MEP™ design technology which automates and optimizes MEP engineering design, delivering the most cost effective solutions. Without the use of Schnackel’s AI-powered technology, the critical construction cost and schedule for this project would not have been met. The design and construction of this project were completed in 18 months.
