The project, which involves the redevelopment of the South Street Seaport Pier 17 building just south of the Brooklyn Bridge in Lower Manhattan, is being developed by Howard Hughes Corporation. The project aims to replace the existing building, but keep the Seaport’s current scale largely intact. It would replace the existing enclosed structure with one made largely of glass and steel. Its glass doors would be kept open in the summer, but closed in the fall and winter months to keep out the wintery Northeast elements. The project also features an open-air rooftop garden and is targeting LEED Silver Certification.
Schnackel Engineers, Inc. a national Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineering Consultant has been chosen to design the MEP/FP scope alongside New York-based SHoP Architects, who will be designing the overall project.
Greg Schnackel, President of Schnackel Engineers stated that “It’s an honor to be a part of such an exciting project; one that will alter the lifestyle of lower Manhattan in such a positive manner.
