The USGBC has awarded Gold Certification to Yum! Brands’ first LEED project in Northampton, MA. The project, a Taco Bell and KFC combination, utilizes a number of cutting-edge energy saving technologies including – a solar wall for preheating outdoor air; solar tubes for daylighting; City Multi split systems for a high level of controllability of the environment; a new high-efficiency dedicated outdoor air rooftop unit; a water reclamation system to store rainwater for landscape irrigation; efficient Dyson Airblade hand dryers; LED lighting fixtures; Lighting control system; Daylight harvesting; Reduced water consumption and a whole-building monitoring system to ensure efficient operation of building systems. The project is targeting USGBC Gold LEED Certification. Yum! Brands, the world’s largest restaurant company, icludes A&W, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Long John Silver’s, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.
