]]>With over 45 years of experience, Gregory’s vision of building a world-class engineering firm has guided Schnackel Engineers since he assumed his role as President in 1995. Since then Schnackel Engineers has grown to 6 regional offices with over 100 employees. His eye for the aesthetic and attention to the end-user’s experience in a space has transformed his clients’ visions into reality time and time again.
Gregory is also the lead architect and principal designer of the company’s revolutionary Artificial Intelligence design software, a remarkable new technology that not only fully automates the design of all MEP systems, but also optimizes the design of those systems for minimum construction cost and maximum value. This patented, proprietary technology represents a paradigm shift for the MEP engineering industry, which continues to improve and evolve today.
Gregory received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, NE in 1984. He is a licensed Mechanical and Electrical Engineer in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and nearly all provinces of Canada. His passions include wine, skiing, music, and helping disadvantaged children reach for a better life.

]]>After a career in the construction industry, Mel joined Schnackel Engineers in 1993, where he spent time as Certified Plumbing Designer, Director of Plumbing Engineering before taking on the position of Senior Vice President of Operations. His unique background offers a keen perspective into the flow of projects through the office, ensuring the delivery of the highest quality services and the Schnackel mantra of total client satisfaction on every project.
Mel received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from Southeast Community College in Milford, NE in 1993. His interests include riding his motorcycle, wood working and spending time with his family.

]]>The second longest tenured engineer on staff, Bill joined Schnackel Engineers in 1989, after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University in Ames, IA. He directly oversees the production and quality assurance of the mechanical systems designed at Schnackel Engineers. Bill’s technical knowledge has proven instrumental in developing trust and confidence with clients in his over 30 years of service.
Bill’s interests include private aircraft aviation, golfing and spending time with his children.

This knowledge allows Layne to provide meaningful input to the project managers as they work with the design team. ]]>Sean has managed and been involved in the design of many types of high-rise residential and commercial projects including mixed-use development, hotels, retail stores, malls, restaurants, offices and more for over 5 years. As Director of the Northeast Region, Sean’s duties include project management, design team meeting attendance, coordination of the Schnackel Engineers team with the goals and objectives of the Project, mechanical engineering design, electrical engineering design including all calculations, telecommunications design, fire alarm design, specification writing, field survey, 3D BIM coordination, coordinating with building departments and local utilities and construction administration.
Sean received his B. Eng. Mechanical Engineering from Stony Brook University in New York, graduating Summa Sum Laude. He is a member of the Tau Beta Pi – Engineers Honor Society.
He received his M.S. in Computer Science from New York University in Spring of 2021.
Sean’s personal interests outside of work include, Software Engineering, Contributing to Open Source Projects, Car Modding and Tuning, and Wrestling.

]]>Jason joined Schnackel Engineers in 1994 on a part-time basis while still in school at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Upon receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology in 1996, he remained at Schnackel and has been there ever since, holding positions in nearly every aspect of the business. As VP of Operations for the West Coast, Jason’s responsibilities include the day-to-day operations of the Pasadena office, as well as marketing the firm’s services on the West Coast and serving as the client liaison for all work in his region.
Jason’s interests include videography, running, swimming, and playing the guitar. He also enjoys the moments, big and small, shared with his wife and three boys.

]]>Charles has over 16 years of combined experience in working with commercial, industrial, residential, restaurant, and institutional, governmental, and health care facilities.
Charles has been involved in service, construction, testing, and maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems while overseeing service operations for some of the largest electrical and mechanical contractors in Hawai’i, such as American Electric, Johnson Controls, and Heide & Cook. He has also been involved in Facilities Management as a past 6-year President for the Hawa’ii Chapter of the International Facilities Management Association, former Interim Director of Facilities for Straub Medical Center, and the former Senior Operations Manager for Ala Moana Center, Ala Moana Building, and Ala Moana Pacific Center where he oversaw capital projects, daily operations, repairs and maintenance, and tenant construction.
A notable career highlight is his role in helping to establish a 4-Year Facilities Management Degree Program at the University of Hawa’ii-West Oahu. This was the first Facilities Management Degree program in the West Coast of the United States.
Charles’ experience provides a unique perspective from the owner/end-user’s point-of-view and his experience in service operations helps to provide additional insight to what contractors will need in order to properly maintain the systems that we design.
As Director of the Pacific Region, Charles’ duties include oversight of Hawai’i office operations, serving as the client liaison for all work throughout the pacific region, business development, coordination of project goals and objectives with the Schnackel Engineers team, field surveys, construction administration, and coordination with building departments and local utilities.
Charles’s interest include family, food, basketball, and travel. He visits Japan once or twice a year and plans to visit Europe more often, despite the fact that it is located 24 hours away from Hawai’i. He also genuinely enjoys helping people find success in anything.

]]>Shawn joined Schnackel Engineers in 2003 after gaining experience in the fields of HVAC, Hydronics, Plumbing, and Fire Protection design with other firms. Since joining Schnackel Engineers, he has held several positions within the company. As a Project Manager, he managed multimillion dollar projects from conception to completion. As a Department Lead, he was responsible for guiding the Hydronics, Plumbing, and Fire Protection practices within the firm. In 2012, he joined the software development team to pursue his interest in AI-powered, optimized computational engineering. Shawn is responsible for the overall operations and direction of the software development arm of Schnackel Engineers. Most recently, he has assumed the role of the Senior Vice President of Technology for Schnackel Engineers and has been a tremendous addition to the executive team.
Shawn received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from Southeast Community College in Milford, NE in 1996. Shawn is a member of ASPE and has previously held certifications by NICET in Fire Sprinkler design and by ASPE as a Certified Plumbing Designer. His personal interests include spending time with his family, cooking, biking, and running.
